tori amos’ abnormally attracted to sin officially comes out today. i have listened to it a handful of times and with that, i only like a handful of songs. most of the songs are so embarrassingly bad that within seconds in, i switch the album to pele or venus so i remember what this woman once was: inspiring, raw, talented and unafraid.
i think i finally accepted what she’s become: a caricature of her former self. all her personality disorders, failed concepts, overly mispronouncing words, wigs, botox, glam squad, dior this, chanel that.
i miss the old amos.
with every album since the beekeeper, i say a silent prayer that this will be her “comeback album.” her “true-to-form” album. but sadly, we get disappointed once more. the beekeeper was (obvs) my most hated tori album when it came out because not only did it suck, it was the first time my view of her was changed, as my friend chrissie pointed out. it’s true. that’s when it all changed. that’s what did the most damage.
now this new album makes me miss the beekeeper. and that’s sad. 2.5/10
i will give credit where credit is due and point out the handful of songs i like and are worth listening to:
-give
-flavor
-abnormally attracted to sin
-lady in blue
-curtain call
-strong black vine
